Description

The dial is platinum, and you would never guess it. Parmigiani Fleurier sandblasts a 950 platinum dial to a matte finish and colours it Milano Blue Notte, a deep evening blue, so the only bright thing on it is the opening at 7 o’clock.

There the flying tourbillon turns with no bridge above it. Everything else is kept quiet: hand-applied 18-carat gold indexes, rhodium-plated, skeletonised delta hands, and the PF oval at the top.

The case and bracelet are 950 platinum too, 42 mm across and 8.6 mm thin. Inside is the PF517, a self-winding calibre 3.4 mm thick, wound by a platinum micro-rotor with Grain d’Orge guilloché: 207 components, 3 Hz and a 48-hour power reserve, all on show through the sapphire caseback. Water resistant to 100 m, with a screwed-in crown.

It is heavier than it looks. That is the platinum.
