Description

Octopod is an octopus by way of a ship's chronometer. MB&F gave it eight legs and a glass head; L'Epée 1839 put a clock inside the head and hung it so it can turn to face you.

The sphere is two polycarbonate hemispheres, gimballed like an old marine chronometer, so it rotates 360° both vertically and horizontally. Inside, the movement is built on a plate of clear mineral glass, anti-reflective on both sides, so the parts seem to float, and the regulator rides on the minute hand itself, counter-balanced as it goes round.

Each leg has 31 pieces and a button that releases it, locking in two positions: standing 28 cm high, or crouching long and low at 45 cm. A double-ended key winds it for 8 days. Limited to 50 pieces in each finish.
