Albatross
Description
Albatross is the clock L'Epée 1839 and MB&F built to take off. On the hour it strikes the time, and 16 pairs of propellers along its hull spin up as if the whole airship were about to leave the table.
Designer Eric Meyer took the idea from Jules Verne's Robur the Conqueror. Hours and minutes turn on separate discs, a single strike marks the half hour, and two buttons call up the chime or the propellers on demand. Both switch off for a quiet night.
Two movements, each with its own winding, share the work: one keeps the time and strike for 8 days, the other drives the propellers. In all, 1,520 components in brass, steel and aluminium, under translucent cold lacquer.
It is 600 mm long, 600 mm high and weighs 17 kg, so choose the shelf with care. Limited to 8 pieces in each colour.
